ROSE’ TASTING & SALE
THIS FRIDAY 6-9
Please join us this Friday, May 20, from 6-9pm for a tasting of 2015 FRENCH ROSE’. It is still early in the rose’ season, but the orders we placed in the winter are starting to flow in. This is a good time to sample what we will be drinking all summer and get a jump on discount pricing. We will be opening several rose’s at different price points and from different regions within France. We will have at least 3 wines open all evening, the order of which we will determine as the evening progresses. Every wine is a different, gorgeous shade ofPINK, each is completely DRY (no residual sugar) with varying degrees of fruit intensity, non-sparkling, and are all sustainably produced using organic farming practices. Many are fermented naturally with minimal intervention and low sulpher use. The truth is, we love French wine and despite the wide range of styles–from bone dry and whisper light to full-flavored and chewy–French rose’ is the epitome of goodrose’. They are also the first of the season to arrive! The growing popularity of rose’ over the last few years is obvious. Many white wine drinkers are easily wooed to the pink side because of light body, and red drinkers have found a way to drink their favorites cold (those dark-hued rose’s are really just super light reds). Rose’s pink color comes from short skin contact with red grape skins. That’s it!If you still think pink equals sweet, you have been drinking something that has sugar added or is very low alcohol; in dry wines, all grape sugar is converted to alcohol, so there is no sugar left in the resulting wine. Most French rose’ is made in a dry style, although some variations exist, of course. The wines we will be tasting are all dry.
We have 10 2015 French rose’s in stock and ready to open on Friday:
Domaine de Fenouillet Cotes du Ventoux rose’ $15
Chateau de Roquefort Cotes du Provence Rose’ $20
Domaine Gassac Guilhem Languedoc Rose’ $11
Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rose’ $30
Commanderie de Peyrossol Cotes du Provence Rose’ $22
Chateau Trinquevedal Tavel Rose’ $20
Vignoble Dinocheau Loire Valley Pinot d’Aunis Rose’ $14
Terres Antiques Rose’ Provence $10
Weekend Plans SW France Mauzac Rose’ $20

Another village-wide FIRST FRIDAY is here. Our weekly Friday Tastings have really been picking up lately, so expect a party! Locally-based Blueprint Brands will be here to showcase some of their craft spirits; here is a list of what their representative, David Brooks, will be sampling THIS FRIDAY:
TOWN BRANCH BOURBON – Lexington, KY
Named for the Town Branch waterway upon which Lexington was founded and once the site of much bourbon production. This is a well-priced, small-batch Kentucky Bourbon made from corn and malted barley only and aged in new charred white oak.
WEST OF KENTUCKY BOURBON – SONOMA , CA
Another small-production bourbon, with west coast style, from California’s premier whiskey distiller.
MANCINO CHINATO – Piedmont, Italy
This is a blend of Mancino’s Secco, Bianco and Rosso vermouths blended with DOCG Barbera d’Asti red wine and Quinine bark, Calissaj.
MERLET CASSIS – Saint Sauvant, France
Pure black current liquor–no artificial aromas, flavoring, or colors.
BITTERMENS BURLESQUE BITTERS – New Orleans, LA
Sweet, spicy, and tart… this bitter blend is made from hibiscus, açai berry and long pepper.
We look forward to showing you these versatile and well-made products in their most basic forms, as well as in an easy to mix Manhattan cocktail. This is a great way to compare the bourbons, taste the Chinato as a replacement to a simpler sweet vermouth, and sample some new and fun bitters to elevate your home bar. Please join us!

Broc Cellars Zinfandel
“…this Zinfandel shows good balance, great natural acidity, and lively ripe tannins. Notes of black and red fruit, licorice, cardamom, and a floral bouquet come forth in this handcrafted Zinfandel.”
Broc Cellars Grenache Blanc
“Broc Cellars “Vine Starr” White is a refreshing, Rhone-inspired blend composed mostly of Grenache Blanc, with touches of Picpoul and Counoise Blanc adding depth and character. Bright notes of green apple, citrus fruit, peach and white flowers are complemented by crisp acidity and a long, lively finish.”
” It has a vibrant, almost life-affirming bouquet of lifted dark cherries, blueberry, soy and minerals that is beautifully defined. The palate is sensual and caressing on the entry, setting you up for its silky tannins, pure macerated dark cherries and blueberry fruit struck through by a keen thread of acidity. Utterly seductive! ” (And has 91 points from The Wine Advocate)
Marchesi Sparkling Moscato
“…this offers a purity of peachy white cherry fruit and a hypnotic fragrance of floral top notes that introduce an engaging palate with very fine, effervescent texture with bubbles so fine they become integral to the texture rather than a bottlenecking at the finish. Though sweet, this wine has a textural tannin like rosin that makes the close mineral and floral.”
This will be a very sumptuous and sensual tasting, so bring your lover(s) or come alone so as to indulge, imbibe, and immerse yourself in your senses. We love you

Come sample wines from one of our favorite California producers and also our newest affordable, gulpable, must-have French rose’.
If you know our shop, you’ve probably figured out that California wines are not our specialty. We do, however, sometimes come across ones that knock our socks off. Several years ago, we were introduced to the wines of Broc Cellars and we love just about every wine Broc makes. With maximum production of any one wine at 270 cases, these wines are acts of love and express handcrafted quality and authenticity. Our sales rep for Broc, Paul Myers, will be on hand to tell you all about the Valdigue (a light, juicy red) and Vine Starr White (a blend of three interesting white grapes). For more info on these wines click on the specific links at
We love rose’ and it seems, this year, everyone else does too. So many of our favorites are sold out or unavailable so we are always happy to find a nice supply of something affordable that we love. Commamderie de Preissan’s Le Rose–100% Grenache–from the Languedoc is our latest find. It’s perfect, really, with a crisp strawberries and cream and herbal character. This wine is completely dry (no sweetness), has a gorgeous salmon pink color, and loves food and sitting by the pool.
21+ with valid ID only.
Come grab a glass and a chair and check out the interesting work of Brian Lynch. His paintings and drawing are up through September.www.lynchstudio.com
Also, it seems worth saying here that the wine shop does not sell art. We provide the space for the artist to display his or her work, but we do not participate in any financial transactions between artist and patron.
And of course, there are a zillion other things to do in the village on First Friday. It’s always a good time. See you there!
FIRST FRIDAY WITH ST-GERMAIN
FRIDAY, February 3 2012
Join us for a St-Germain cocktail party this Friday! Our SG rep Melissa will teach us to make their signature “Hummingbird” with Prosecco and the far more masculine “Traditional Elder-Fashioned,” a remake of the the Old-Fashioned.
What is St-Germain, you ask? It’s a French liqueur made from the hand-picked flowers of the Elderbush. The liqueur smells and tastes of fresh, white flowers and sweet lichi nuts and blends with everything! Bake with it, mix it with beer, bathe in it… ask anyone who has ever tasted the stuff–it’s amazing!
21+ with valid ID only.
We encourage you to bring a designated driver and NEVER drink and drive!
Facebook Event Link:
We’re pairing our first ever art opening with our annual favorite wine tasting. The pairing choices are endless for traditional thanksgiving foods but we’ve narrowed it down to four wines: two winter whites–a round, peachy, voluptuous Viognier from France’s Cotes du Rhone and an unusual but delicious blend from Italy’s Piemonte region that tastes like ripe apples and pears, dry honey, lemon, and, well, beer (so interesting and so delicious!), a primeur Beaujolais (or Beaujolais Nouveau) from a favorite producer, and a dense, earthy, alive Grenache from a much-loved, artisanal California producer. PLEASE NOTE THE UNUSUAL TIME OF THIS EVENT.
Also meet Zzoe Rowan, a Saugerties artist, whose “mixed-media, whimsy, and watercolor” will hang on our walls for a month-long showing of his work. As we cannot sell art (by State Liquor Authority rules), we will provide the space for local artists to showcase their work and make 100% of the profit from their own sales. It’s nice to do something that is not based on income–it’s just a quality of life benefit for us and a way to promote local art.
